Stop interrupting people. Give them something worth keeping.

Interruption fades. Design moments people keep without being asked. Bad vs good brand memory, and how to build it.

Stop interrupting people. Give them something worth keeping.

Interruption marketing assumes attention is a raw material you can mine indefinitely. Attention is not a mine. It is a relationship with a very short temper. In a media universe already crowded with shouting, the brands people remember are often the ones that handed them something worth keeping.

Memorable is not the same as loud. Loud is a tax. Memorable is a gift with a brand attached. When people keep the gift, they keep a reason to recall you without another ad.

Interruption vs something worth keeping

MomentBad (interrupt)Good (worth keeping)
FeedSame hard sell every postA lesson, tool, or story they would save
StreetFlyer nobody requestedObject or experience people choose to take
EmailWeekly promo with no valueUseful note they would forward to a friend
ProductUpsell before valueFirst value fast, then earned asks
MemoryLogo repetitionA feeling or utility tied to your name

**Bad:** retargeting someone twelve times with the same “shop now” creative. You are memorable as a nuisance. **Good:** a field guide, repair tip, packing list, or neighbourhood map that solves a real micro-job. The brand is how they got it, not why they resent their phone.

**Bad event booth:** logo wall and a QR to a newsletter. **Good:** a moment people keep (photo, object, skill) where discovery of the brand feels like a bonus, not a toll.

Brand moment worth remembering

Design one keepable moment this month

  1. Write the keepable outcome: what do they still have after the campaign ends?
  2. Choose format: object, guide, tool, experience, or story series.
  3. Remove the hard sell from the first half. Earn the ask.
  4. Make brand discovery secondary but clear on close look.
  5. Test with five people outside the company: would they keep or share it?
  6. Connect the keepable moment to one product path, not five competing offers.
